Your guide to Us by Night 2024

I'm sure you've heard the news... Us by Night is back in September! The fifth edition of the Antwerp-based festival kicks off on Thursday 26 September. With more than 60 speakers, a night market and an in-house disco, this three-day celebration of design and creativity is packed with engaging talks from digital designers, creative coding experts and motion design innovators. I've combed through the extensive line-up to highlight the standout sessions that go beyond traditional design and are not to be missed.

Isabel + Helen

Isabel + Helen are a dynamic design duo known for their captivating performative sculptures. Based on the exploration of movement, materials and mechanisms, their work embodies a spirit of transformation and change.

Jim Stoten

Jim Stoten is a multidisciplinary artist, illustrator and musician based in Venice, Italy. Known for his extensive client list and meticulous personal projects, Jim also maintains an impressive sketchbook that showcases his eclectic creative vision.

Svet Lapcheva / FutureDeluxe

Svet is the Design Innovation Director at FutureDeluxe, a global creative studio pushing the boundaries of CGI, immersive experiences, and future technologies. Svet also co-leads FutureResearch, exploring new frontiers in immersive and CGI work.

Emma Reeves

As the Director of Photography and Deputy Creative Director at Rolling Stone Magazine, Emma Reeves shapes the visual identity of the magazine’s print and digital photography. She collaborates with the Creative Director to lead groundbreaking design concepts for the magazine.

Random Studio

Roel Wouters, an innovative director and designer, plays a multifaceted role at Random Studio’s Living Lab. He’s also known for his involvement in Maurer Wouters and co-authorship of the Conditional Design Manifesto (2008).

Brian Roettinger

Brian Roettinger’s work fuses punk ideology with a modernist design approach. Known for subverting traditional production techniques, his unique method disrupts order while creating visually compelling work through strategies like repetition and unexpected interventions.

Lukas Kaiser

As Head of Content for Westbrook Media, Lukas Kaiser has played a crucial role in launching digital initiatives such as Red Table Talk and Will Smith’s social platforms, with content spanning Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube, and beyond.

Saturday, 28 September

From Form

From Form is an independent creative studio based in Rotterdam and run by Ashley Govers and Jurjen Versteeg. Their playful and cinematic approach to film and design often blurs the line between the real and the imaginary, with a focus on analogue techniques and meticulous art direction.

Alice Moitié

Paris-based photographer and director Alice Moitié is celebrated for her vibrant, spontaneous visual style. With roots in illustration, Alice captures moments with a humorous and graceful touch, often embracing the awkward and unexpected.

Willo Perron

A leading figure in creative direction for over two decades, Willo Perron is credited with shaping the role of the Artist Creative Director and driving cultural trends in art and design.

Hisham Akira Bharoocha

Brooklyn-based multi-media artist Hisham Akira Bharoocha works in a variety of media including murals, paintings and sound installations. His work explores mental architecture, cultural backgrounds, and the formation of behavioural patterns.

Vera van de Seyp

A rising star in computational design, Vera van de Seyp creates generative design tools and explores computational typography and artificial intelligence. As part of MIT's Media Lab, she shares her expertise through talks and workshops aimed at inspiring designers to build their own tools.
